Quadro Comil In Food Industry: Process, Uses & Benefits
If you are involved with the food processing and manufacturing industry, then you might have heard about Quadro, the pioneer of conical mills that are largely favored over other types of milling machines. Over the years, many cone mill manufacturers have emerged but Quadro Comil (short for Cone Mill) continues to be popular due to the various innovations and features this brand has to offer. The conical mill is widely used in pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, food, chemical, plastic and rubber industries during manufacturing and processing. Food manufacturers use it for several processes for different types of items that will be discussed below:
Working Of Quadro Mill
Before talking about the cone mill’s applications, it’s important to understand its working principle. The milling machine uses a combination of centrifugal force and rubbing force to get particles of the right size. The food item enters the mill by hand or through a vacuum feed. The impeller produces the centrifugal force by spinning the conical sieve that rubs the item and cuts it into smaller sizes. The sieve has pores that allow the particles to pass through when it’s of the required size. The final product falls into a receptacle from where it is transported to another machine for processing, manually or by a vacuum feed.
Applications Of Quadro Mill In Food Manufacturing
Following are some processes in which conical screen mills are used in the food industry:
1) Fine Grinding
Fine grinding is the process of reducing material into a fine powdery substance. Food manufacturers use conical screen mills to grind spices, grains, fruit, etc. into a fine powder. The screen with the smallest pores is used to allow only the finest particles to pass through the mill.
2) Deagglomeration
Some food items like dried fruits tend to stick together and need to be separated but manufacturers cannot risk grinding them into smaller particles. Quadro mill separates the cluster of raisins without damaging them through a combination of high speed and larger pores on the screen to let each piece through.
3) Size Reduction
Sometimes, the manufacturer wants to reduce the size of the item while keeping it larger than fine particles. This can be done through a process called milling in which a machine with rotating blades (a sieve in case of cone mills) cuts the item passing through it into smaller pieces. This method is used for processing spices, herbs, and flakes. A screen with pores slightly larger than fine particles is used for the process.
4) Granulation
Granulation refers to the formation of granules from either fine powder or a larger item. The larger item is reduced to the size of granules while powder is lumped together to form them. Quadro mill can be used both ways to produce granules of potatoes, cereals, etc. This process is also used to make pet food.
5) Food Reclamation
A lot of crops produced during the reaping season go to waste when farmers or supermarkets are unable to sell all the produce. To prevent wastage, the leftover produce is reclaimed, processed and sold in the market as other items at affordable rates. The reclaimers screen the product strictly to ensure that the final product is healthy for consumption.
6) Screening
The presence of impurities is a cause for major concern for all parties involved. Cone mills can also remove impurities from the item based on the difference in the sizes of their particles.
Benefits Of Quadro CoMil
Following are some reasons why food manufacturers prefer Quadro Comil over other types of mills:
- It produces low levels of noise and dust.
- Its stainless steel and design make it easy to maintain with regular cleaning and periodic lubrication.
- Its size-reduction system is hygienic.
- The size of the particles it produces is highly consistent.
- The manufacturers can change their sieves based on the particle size they need to produce.
