Plantation Shutters or Blinds - Which is Better?

In this battle between famous window covering, plantation shutters are an unmistakable winner for window treatment in Port St. Lucie for numerous reasons! Aesthetically, and essentially, plantation shutters offer a few advantages that blinds can't compete with. Plantation shutters are a long-lasting and easy-to-clean installation in your home and are the only window covering proven to expand property value. They are UV-protected and fixed to hold their color and barrier to direct sunlight without yellowing cracking or fading.

Pros of Plantation Shutters

They give the most light blockage and protect your windows against outrageous climate to reduce your heating and cooling costs consistently. They block dust and allergens from entering the home and are sufficiently able to hold up to playful little children, curious pets, and whatever life throws at them.

At the same time, adding privacy and blocking sunlight, they allow you flexible control over opening the shutter panels completely to get full visibility and maximum sunlight. Or you can keep the panels shut and raise and lower the slats for light to enter while still maintaining your privacy.

Plantation shutters or Mini blinds

In contrast to the advantages listed above, mini blinds are difficult to clean as the different small blades are hard to clean in the middle, and the strings holding the blades together create a barrier for cleaning.

Not custom to your window, there is usually excess length on the bottom part of mini blinds that bunches up at the lower part of the window and makes them heavy and hard to raise/lower without them hanging or drooping. Also, it doesn't look as clean as a custom fit shutter.

Plantation shutters or Venetian Blinds

Very much like mini blinds, venetian blinds are more difficult to clean than shutters.

The vertical blades swing from a clip and you need to put great care when dusting and cleaning them to not dislodge them from the clips. We have all seen Venetian blinds with at least one gap from a missing blade or two.

Venetian blinds hold tight on a track that leaves a gap between the blinds and the window, at last not allowing full light blockage or protection. In the event that the length isn't perfect, they can drag across the floor and become hard to rotate open and shut or to slide open.

Plantation shutters or Roller Blinds

Roller blinds are generally made of fabrics and therefore additionally more hard to clean. They are of thinner materials and will not offer a similar degree of protection and light blockage as shades. Your only choice for roller blinds is to move them up or down. You can't rotate any slats or blinds to give you some normal natural lighting without completely exposing the window opening, consequently, you don't have as much control over privacy.

Cons of Blinds

Blinds will in general gather dust and are made of thinner materials that don't give similar protection or light blockage as shades do.

Over the long run in the direct sun, blinds will in general start turning yellow, break, or peel. Also the flimsy thin material can bend and snap and will not hold up for however many years as plantation shutters will.

The strings that control your blinds can regularly get tangled or clustered up and quit functioning. Hard to keep up with or fix, blinds are a short-term investment whereas plantation shutters in Stuart are basically an investment for your home that will be with you for a long time. Basic maintenance tips will keep your shutters in very good condition for quite a long time to come!
